Fat Family in Front of Fast Food Background

Obesity by Country

Americans are the fattest followed by Mexico, United Kingdom, and Canada. The leanest nations are Asian and are countries like Korea and Japan. The rate in Asian countries hovers around 3% while Americans are over 30% obese.

Reports show the obesity rate in America at around 32%, but this rate is vastly underestimated. It is probably due to the fact that we report our own numbers to world organizations.

What Causes the Differences Between Obese Countries and Lean Countries

You will find that the leanest countries do not have sweet taste buds. Have you ever tried some Japanese or Korean desserts. In the first place, deserts are set aside for special occasions and secondly, they are not sweet compared to Western foods. In fact, many Westerners will not think that the desserts are sweet enough to be good.

The portion sizes are smaller in Asian countries. They even think that it is impolite to overstock your bowl or plate. It is not considered good taste to be a glutton. In the Western culture, there are no morays on this aspect of eating.

Asians eat a lot of three things: fish and rice and vegetables. These three items are both low in calories and high in nutrition. It is much better than eating a Big Mac, fries, and a Coke.

The drink of choice for Asians is tea. Tea is much better for you than sugary drinks. It has no calories. Increased water consumption that accompanies tea drinking is good for you; especially herbal teas.

Asian countries are much more likely to have people that ride bicycles, that work manual labor, or that walk to where they are going. This makes it necessary for many people to get exercise every day.

Summary

Rice is more filling and has lower calories than most foods you might choose. In addition, vegetables will go great with rice. This makes it a perfect way to eat.


The most important thing that Asian countries do well is staying away from refined sugar, soda pop, and fast foods. Fast foods are expensive in these countries and are seldom eaten.


To be thin, reduce sugar and eat foods like rice and fish that fill you up without too many calories.
